Hello! I meant to write this post last week, but I ended up busier than I thought I'd be with some family stuff. We got back from our Santa Fe trip last Sunday evening, returning to the blast furnace that is Texas this time of year. The whole time we were gone it was over 100 degrees and humid! We were not at all sorry that we missed it.
Here we are, on one of our road rides while we were there. This photo was taken on one of the bike paths that run through town. Our favorite road bike route out there right now starts on Rabbit Rd, which begins a super fast downhill for about 6 miles total, before the climbing back into town begins. We did this route twice on this trip, and the second time (the last day we were there), my rear tire exploded! Seriously, it sounded like a gunshot. I've got tubeless tires on my wheels and it takes a lot to puncture them, but when they do get punctured, it's dramatic! This time it actually blew out my wheel, too - thankfully ENVE, the maker of my wheels, is giving me a crash warranty replacement. Whew! And luckily, we were 1 mile away from the car, so D was able to rescue me!
This photo of our bikes leaning on a rail was taken on the Santa Fe Rail Trail. We rode about 10 miles down, and then back for a total of 20 on our mountain bikes. This ride is so much fun that we did it twice! It is so beautiful and quiet out there. We did see a few other cyclists, and a couple of them were solo females! I ride by myself a lot, but almost never see other female cyclists out there while I'm riding around here in TX.
Here's me, enjoying a beautiful cocktail that I can't remember the name of at the Dragon Room, which is the bar associated with the Pink Adobe restaurant. We went there for the first time back in March, when we were there over spring break, and can't believe we waited that long to go! It's now on our list of must-go places while we are in town. SO good. Other places on our list, in case you are planning to visit Santa Fe and wonder where to go:
The Shed (of course! Santa Fe classic!)
Geronimo ( our favorite date-night place)
Radish & Rye
Pasqual's (we go for breakfast, and always get the griddled poltenta - it's to die for)
The Burrito Company (another great breakfast spot! I love their migas)
Upper Crust Pizza (BEST pizza! Their crust is amazing)
The Shake Foundation - a green chile burger is just the thing after a good workout!
Secreto - the bar ar the St Francis, which has a lovely selection of craft cocktails
Gruet - the winery has a tasting room associated with the St Francis, and their wine is really good! We brought a case home with us, as usual.
Anyway, our trip was all about riding, relaxing, and eating great food, and it was a success on all fronts. Now I'm back at it in the studio, and just finished up and mailed all of the made-to-order pieces from my last sale, so if you've been waiting, it's on the way! I've got a few custom pieces in the works now, plus an Etsy order (yes, I still have an Etsy store as well as this website!), and I'm starting to put together a new collection. I think I will call this one something beachy, like "Marine" or "Beachcomber". When I am planning a new collection, I like to get out a bunch of stones and beads and things that seem to fit the theme, and see what comes together. I've got sea glass, fossil sand dollars, shells, mother of pearl, more Queen Conch, and a few other things I'm eyeballing to be included. More to come on that!
I hope you all are out there having a great Monday and staying cool. We are lucky this week with the remnants of Beryl - we aren't getting much directly but the cloud cover sure is nice, because it is keeping our temps down a bit!
